Dropped by the Deepal showroom in Dubai yesterday and left feeling like I just had a glimpse into the future of driving. But before I even made it to the driver’s seat, I found myself sipping on an Oreo milkshake, munching buttery popcorn, and winning the cutest Deepal teddy bear at the claw machine. Let’s just say this wasn’t your average car showroom visit — it was a full-on vibe.
Once I finally got behind the wheel of the Deepal S05, the real fun began. This intelligent compact SUV blends futuristic design with comfort so plush, it genuinely feels like you’re flying business class. The zero-gravity reclining seats are next-level, and I loved how the built-in dash cam records effortlessly through the infotainment screen — no fiddly setups, just tap and record.
What really impressed me was the Drive Assist technology, which made the short spin feel incredibly smooth and safe. It’s clear this car is built with smart, connected mobility in mind — and the experience didn’t feel like a prototype or preview. It felt ready.
Backed by Changan Automobile, DEEPAL is now rolling out the S05 across the Middle East and Africa starting July 2025, following its UAE debut. It’s available in two versions. The EV model delivers up to 460 km of electric range. The REEV (Range-Extended EV) offers 160 km electric + a built-in 1.5L petrol engine to boost your total range to over 900 km — perfect for road trips or cities with fewer charging stations.
We had a briefing by the Deepal team and this is what I learnt about the car:
✔ Rear-wheel drive with up to 216HP
✔ AR-HUD, panoramic sunroof, and a 15.4” central display
✔ Voice assistant, OTA updates, and seamless connectivity
✔ Aerodynamic design with hidden handles and frameless windows
The S05 brings premium electric innovation to a more accessible price point, and honestly, it doesn’t feel like anything’s been compromised. The tech is intuitive, the interiors are sleek, and the driving feel is dynamic without being intimidating, making it perfect for new EV drivers and city commuters alike.
We also got a peek at the upcoming Deepal S07, and I can already tell this brand has no intention of slowing down when it comes to pushing boundaries.
Whether you’re an EV enthusiast or just someone curious about switching to smarter, cleaner driving, the Deepal S05 is worth a test drive. I had a very short initial drive and and found that it combines style, sustainability, and seriously cool features in one futuristic package.
I walked back into the showroom after the drive for some more buttery popcorn and left dreaming of road trips with reclining seats and playlists echoing through a crystal-clear cabin. Plus of course an amazing pet backpack that had the cuddliest soft toy and gifts. The future of driving? It’s already parked in Dubai.
