Al-Futtaim Honda, exclusivedistributor of Honda cars, bikes, marineengines and power products in the UAE, has announced that the Honda Jazz, Accord and CR-V has won top honoursat two leading automotive award functions.

The recently launched Jazz won Best Compact car award at the annual Wheels Car of the Year awards while the CR-V and Accord (has since undergone a full model change and was launched in the UAE last month) won best Midsize Sedan and Best Small SUV respectively at the Middle East Car of the Year (MECOTY) awards.

The all-new Jazz comes loaded with features including a new 7.0in colour Display Audio touchscreen with swipe and touch functionality, Steering Wheel Mounted Controls, keyless entry, cruise control, rear parking sensors. The Jazz exudes a bold confidence too with itssporty, lower and wider look while under the bonnet is a peppy 1.5-litre Direct Injection i-VTEC engine that generates 130hpand 155Nm of torque.

Now in its 5^thyear, the MECOTY awards arethe biggest, most coveted awards ceremony of the regional automotive industry and the judging panel includes some of the most respected motoring journalists from around the region. Winners of the MECOTY awards were chosen based on test drives by the jury members and public voting.

The new CR-V has a bold new styling, a more premium interior and a host of new features and technologies. The CR-V targets the highest levels of quality and driving refinement in its class with top class steering precision, ride comfort, body control and cabin quietness. The CR-V is powered by a 2.4-litre DOHC, direct injected i-VTEC engine that is mated to a smooth shifting and sporty continuously variable transmission (CVT) with Honda G-Shift control logic.

The French Lion brand reigns supreme at the Middle East Car of the Year Awards
The prestigious award marks the 41^st win for Peugeot’s most celebrated SUV

The new PEUGEOT 3008 scooped the “Public Car of the Year” award at 2018 Middle East Car of the Year, which was held last week in Abu Dhabi. This admired trophy joins a series of 40 prizes the new PEUGEOT 3008 has already won globally. The French automaker’s popular car was declared winner through online public voting, garnering a total of 75,967 votes.

Commenting on this occasion, Cedric Zayoun, M.D., PSA Groupe GCC said: “We’re very proud to have won the Public COTY 2018. People’s opinions matter and this very award represents people’s choice of a car that integrates safety, performance, technology and style. The new Peugeot 3008 represents the brand’s highly technological expertise embodied in the latest generation PEUGEOT i-Cockpit®, a novel concept that has rewritten the book on the car cockpit. The large 8” touch-screen resembles a tablet installed in the centre of the dashboard and is equipped with capacitive technology for greater reactivity and practicality. It is accompanied by six elegant piano-key “toggle switches” – giving direct and permanent access to the main control functions: radio, climate control, navigation, vehicle parameters, telephone and mobile applications.

The Public Car of the Year 2018 has been hot-weather tested in the region. With an engine range that is both powerful and parsimonious, the new PEUGEOT 3008 features a 1.6L Turbo, 165hp engine and 6-speed automatic gearbox that give ultra-low consumption with a torque of 240N.m at 1400 rpm. Mustang Shelby GT350 named Performance Coupe of the Year
F-150 Raptor secures Truck of the Year
Second award in a week for the F-150 Raptor, having earlier secured Wheels magazine’s Pickup of the Year

The Ford F-150 Raptor and Mustang Shelby GT350 have earned top honours during the prestigious Middle East Car of the Year (MECOTY) awards, held in Abu Dhabi earlier this week.

The Shelby GT350 collected honours as Performance Coupe of the Year, and the all-conquering F-150 Raptor crushed its opposition to be named Truck of the Year.

The awards, now in their fifth year, are the most coveted automotive awards in the region, combining the expertise and experience of 16 leading motoring journalists from the GCC and Levant, who work through multi stage nomination and scoring process to arrive at their list of winners.

“We’re thrilled to see two of the most exciting and dynamic vehicles we produce excel in the MECOTY awards this year,” said Chris Probert, Ford Middle East and Africa Director of Marketing Communications. “The Shelby GT350 is an incredible performance coupe, with a track ready chassis and high-revving 534 PS V8 engine, while the F-150 Raptor continues to be the region’s favourite out-of-the-box performance truck for off-road extremes. Both models embody Ford’s passion for performance and resonate with millions of fans around the world.”

The Shelby GT350 badge has been associated with the Ford Mustang since 1965 – and has become synonymous with high performance road and track driving ever since. The current model develops its enormous horsepower and 582 Nm torque from a 5.2-litre flat plane crank V8 (known as the Voodoo) – the most powerful naturally aspirated road-going engine in Ford history. With a redline of 8250rpm, it is also the highest revving production V8 Ford to date.

The Shelby GT350’s dynamic and adrenaline-fueled ride comes courtesy of the MagneRide Damping System, while an aluminum strut brace and coolers for the engine oil, transmission and differential all help the car to perform at its best.

The sporty interior is trimmed with aluminum, alcantara and leather. Recaro sports seats hug the driver and passengers with a mix of carbon weave cloth and Miko sueded cloth to help hold them firmly in place turn after turn.

Ford’s all-conquering F-150 Raptor added another award to its growing trophy cabinet. The purpose built off-road machine gathered the MECOTY Truck of the Year award, having been named Dubai-based Wheels magazine’s Pickup of the Year just a week earlier.

Based on the backbone of America’s best-selling truck for the past 41 straight years, the 2017 F-150 Raptor saw the introduction of a high strength aluminium body and second generation, high output 3.5-litre twin-turbo EcoBoost engine with 10-speed transmission.

Use of advanced materials saw its weight drop up to 227 kilograms over its predecessor, while the 421 PS engine with its 678 Nm torque boosted its on- and off-road performance. A new four-wheel drive system, 10-speed transmission, torque on demand transfer case and all-new Terrain Management system gives the Raptor its incredible off-road capability, while its FOX Racing Shox with 9-stage bypass damping with 48mm more suspension travel helps improve its monstrous capability beyond the pavement. Massive, second generation BFGoodrich K02 tyres with beadlock capable wheels are also designed for serious off-road work.

New Volvo XC60 - T6

The Swedish Carmaker Scoops Two Additional Category Awards for the XC40 and XC60.

The new Volvo XC60 has been named Jury Car of the Year by MECOTY’s jury panel at the annual MECOTY award ceremony, held in parallel with the Abu Dhabi International Motor Show, further adding to Volvo’s growing list of accolades.

The XC60 also received the Midsize Premium SUV award, while the XC40 won in the Small Premium SUV category.

“We are honored and pleased to accept these prestigious awards”, said Jesus Fernandez de Masa, Managing Director at Volvo Cars EMEA Importers. “The MECOTY award as well as both SUV category awards prove that Volvo Cars have the right design, performance and connectivity that appeal to the customers of the Middle East, a key market for us.”

The XC60 also took home the prestigious North American Utility Vehicle of the Year award earlier this year in addition to the World Car of the Year 2018 at the New York Auto Show. The XC40, on the other hand, was named European Car of the Year at the Geneva Motor show a few weeks earlier.

In the new XC60, Volvo’s City Safety Autonomous Emergency Braking system has been enhanced with steering support for when automatic braking alone may not help avoid a potential collision. In addition, Oncoming Lane Mitigation with Steer Assist, which helps mitigate head-on collisions and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Steer Assist functionality have also been added to reduce the risk of lane-changing collisions.

The XC40 is the first model on Volvo Cars’ new compact modular vehicle architecture (CMA), which will underpin all upcoming cars in the 40 Series, including fully electrified vehicles. Co-developed together with Geely, CMA provides the company with the necessary economies of scale for this segment.

The company also reaffirms its commitment to electrify all Volvo Cars launched from 2019. Hybridized as well as pure electric powertrain options will be offered and the XC60 is already available with Twin Engine. Driver assistance and safety features on both cars include the Pilot Assist system, City Safety, Run-off Road protection and mitigation, Cross Traffic alert with brake support and a 360° Camera that facilitates maneuvering the car into tight spaces.

Currently in its 5th run, MECOTY is the automotive industry’s most prestigious accolade in the region, with each vehicle tested by a panel of the region’s top automotive journalists on ten separate scoring parameters.

Hyundai has officially launched the fifth generation of its popular Accent small car in Africa and Middle East markets, building on the strengths of previous models with Hyundai’s latest design and engineering innovations while also maintaining Accent’s unbeatable value proposition for buyers.

Highlights of the new model include a completely new exterior design and comfortable high-tech interior. More efficient powertrains deliver an outstanding combination of performance and fuel economy, with a choice of 1.4-liter or 1.6-liter engines, including a diesel available in some markets, matched to a six-speed transmission in either manual or automatic.

Other advances include reduced cabin noise and remarkably improved driving dynamics, both helped by a stronger bodyshell, and a selection of the latest safety and convenience features offered either as standard or as options. The All-new Accent is also slightly longer and wider than the previous model, including an increased distance between the front and rear wheels, giving occupants more leg and shoulder room.

“This new model makes several key improvements on the previous Hyundai Accent, which was already an excellent car and very popular with customers,” said Hyundai’s Head of Operations for Africa and the Middle East, Mike Song. “Design and engineering are completely fresh, ensuring a car that looks superb, is enjoyable to drive, with high levels of safety, and will be economical to own.”

The design of the new Accent exhibits confidence and sophistication, delivering a new interpretation of Hyundai’s design language. This includes Hyundai’s signature cascading grille – a design element being introduced across the brand’s product range. The grille is flanked by wraparound headlights and optional LED signature daytime running lights, while sharp character lines run the length of the car to the slim LED wraparound tail lights.

Accent’s interior continues the modern, confident, sophisticated theme of the exterior. A driver-oriented layout with intuitive controls combines with improved interior roominess, high-quality materials and premium technology features. Premium, soft-touch materials in key points create an inviting and comfortable environment for the driver and passengers.

A wide instrument panel prominently features a standard backup camera system via the touchscreen LCD display. Beneath the screen, the control panel is laid out in a horizontal design with buttons and controls logically grouped by function. Other convenience features available include a proximity key with push button start, dual USB charging, and auxiliary input jacks.
Standard safety features include electronic stability control, traction control and anti-lock brakes, as well as emergency stop signal, which automatically flashes the brake lights when the driver brakes heavily. Available options include a six-airbag system, static bending headlights to provide better illumination of the road through corners, and auto cruise control.

The body is stronger than the previous model, with torsional rigidity improved through the increased use of advanced high strength steel and structural adhesives. The New-generation Accent features several improvements to the front side members and inner side sill for improved collision protection. The front crumple zones have been increased, front side airbags have been upgraded, and reinforcements have been added to improve the car’s collision energy management performance, especially in small overlap crashes.

“The New-generation Hyundai Accent includes many of the latest auto innovations available, immediately setting a new benchmark for its segment,” said Mike Song. “It offers something exceptional to car buyers, and will continue the Accent success story.”

Richard Mille and McLaren Automotive will present their rst Limited-Edition timepiece at the 88th Geneva Motor Show on March 7. With a focus on materials, details and design, the long-awaited watch from the partnership will incorporate design features from McLaren cars as well as lightweight technologies, re ecting the brands’ values whilst being both aesthetic and functional.

Both companies have a reputation for luxury and a strong desire to be at the cutting edge of technology while striving for excellence and rarity in everything they do. The two companies are relatively newcomers in their industries as McLaren Automotive was founded in 2010, and Richard Mille in 2001. Their respective growth and success is mainly due to the investment in their respective R&D divisions, allowing them to deliver innovative pieces.

The watch will be honouring one of the new McLaren models being introduced in Geneva on Tuesday March 6 at 10.45am CET. More information about the watch will be released on the March 7, 2018 at 15:00 CET.

The Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team has launched its new challenger, the C37, ahead of the 2018 Formula 1 championship.

The C37 looks different to last year’s C36 – on one hand, this is due to the new technical regulations, and on the other hand, because of the team’s new technical approach.

As the 2018 season is about to kick off, Frédéric Vasseur, Team Principal, says: “I am very much looking forward to the 2018 season, and to seeing Marcus (Ericsson) and Charles (Leclerc) on track. We have put lots of effort and hard work into the C37 over the last few months, and it is fantastic to be launching the new car today. I am convinced that Marcus and Charles form the perfect driver line-up, with one being an experienced driver and one a promising rookie. Marcus is going into his fourth season with us. He is a valuable part of the team, and we benefit from his experience and precise technical feedback. As for Charles, he has proven his talent in prior categories and deserves to be on the Formula 1 grid this season.”

“Our target ahead of 2018 is clear: We have to catch up with the field and continue improving our performance during the course of the season. We have put lots of energy and commitment into the development of the C37. I want to thank our partners and fans for their continuous support. The return of Alfa Romeo to Formula 1 sets another milestone in the team’s history, and I am proud that such a historical brand has chosen us for their return to the sport. Alfa Romeo’s comeback restores one of the great names that have gone down in the history of motorsport’s premium championship, Formula 1, and marks the return of the “Quadrifoglio”, the legendary badge that has appeared on Alfa Romeo’s top performance cars since 1923, to the circuits. Featured on the engine cover of the new C37, the famous good-luck charm has a fascinating history, deeply rooted in the racing world. The first Alfa Romeo car to carry the Quadrifoglio was the “RL” driven by Ugo Sivocci which won the 15th edition of the Targa Florio in 1923. The same good-luck emblem also appeared on Brilli Peri’s “P2” when he triumphed in the first “Motor Racing World Championship” in Monza in 1925, gaining the first of Alfa Romeo’s five World Titles, and it was present again in 1950 and 1951, when Giuseppe “Nino” Farina and Juan Manuel Fangio drove the Alfa Romeo 158 and 159 cars, the famous “Alfettas”, to success in the first two Formula 1 World Championships. Today, the legendary symbol returns to the highest level of motor racing to show the whole world the continuing strength and success of the Alfa Romeo philosophy, a constant search for excellence applied to racing, then transferred in its entirety to the brand’s production cars. The legend continues.

Jörg Zander, Technical Director, explains: “It is great to finally reveal the C37 today. The 2018 challenger is the result of the hard work that everyone in the factory has put in over the last few months. Speaking about the C37, the car philosophy is much different to that of the C36. The aerodynamic concept has changed significantly, and the C37 has several new features in comparison to its predecessor. We are positive that the new concept offers us more opportunities and will help us to make improvements during the course of the season. The 2018 Ferrari engine will also give us a boost in terms of our performance. We hope that we will make progress with the C37 and that we are more competitive compared to 2017.”

The official rollout of the C37 will take place on the occasion of the first winter tests at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona from the 26^th of February to the 1^st of March 2018.

The innovative vehicle won a TRD 86 race at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi earlier this month

In a UAE first, Immensa Technology Labs — the country’s leading Additive Manufacturing (AM or 3D printing) company — has provided 3D printed parts for a Toyota GT86 race car. The innovative vehicle was driven by Mohammed Abdulghaffar Hussain at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi and won the TRD 86 race earlier this month.

Fahmi Al-Shawwa, CEO of Immensa, commented: “In alignment with the ‘Dubai 3D Printing Strategy’ launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, we are proud to be the first 3D printing company in the UAE to apply this new technology to the local automotive industry. We are confident that Additive Manufacturing can enhance traditional manufacturing processes, reduce costs, redefine productivity and fuel innovation across all sectors, and we are delighted to have proven this in partnership with Mohammed.”

In addition to him being an amateur race car driver, Hussain is the Managing Director of Green Coast Enterprises and the CEO of Creek Capital. As a progressive investor and an advocate of advanced technologies, Hussain commented: “My racing team is committed to adopting the latest technologies and working with disruptive companies like Immensa to drive innovation. We are pleased to have set a new benchmark by using 3D printed parts in a racing car for the first time here in the region as far as I am aware. This technology provided us with a great turnaround time for parts that we were not able to source locally and others that were produced to a much higher quality than the original parts. We are confident that this exciting new technology will play an increasingly important role in the future of race car design as well as many other industries in the UAE.”

Immensa was established in 2016 to provide comprehensive solutions whereby 3D Printing can add value. The company is also committed to the research and development of 3D printing techniques, and has established its own proprietary techniques to fabricate and produce objects that would not be physically possible without AM.
