From May 2018, the all-new Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, which includes many class-topping features, immediately becomes part of the premium compact SUV segment.

With a bold design, performance and technology, Stelvio Quadrifoglio clocked a new record for its class on the iconic Nürburgring: 7 minutes 51.7 seconds.

The Stelvio Quadrifoglio is equipped with an exclusive aluminium 2.9 V6 Bi-Turbo petrol engine – developed using technologies and engineering know-how from Ferrari, it delivers maximum power of 510hp at 6,500 rpm and generates a maximum torque of 600 Nm from 2,500 to 5,000 rpm. The power plant is teamed with the specifically calibrated eight-speed automatic transmission that allows gearshifts in just 150 milliseconds in Race driving mode – to maximise the driving experience, one-piece aluminium paddle shifters, integral with the steering column, are standard.

Its performance is outstanding: acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and a best-in-class top speed of 283 km/h. But Alfa Romeo’ sports SUV is also incredibly efficient in terms of fuel consumption and emissions, thanks to its electronically controlled cylinder deactivation system and the “sailing” function, available in Advanced Efficiency driving mode.

For the first time, the 510hp 2.9 V6Bi-Turbo petrol engine is combined with theinnovative Q4 all-wheel drive system, which guarantees unbeatable performance, traction, driving pleasure and safety in all situations. Stelvio Quadrifoglio is also equipped with the exclusive Alfa Chassis Domain Control unit and is the only SUV in its class to provide differential Alfa™Active Torque Vectoring as standard. Alsostandard is the innovative Alfa™Active Suspension, a system that continually, actively controls the suspension and shock absorbers.

Impeccable handing and comfort is guaranteed thanks to the Stelvio Q’s suspension layout, with the exclusive AlfaLink™technology – up front it has a double wishbone system with semi-virtual steering axis, with a four-and-a-half link Multilink system at the rear. In any situation and at all speeds, driving the Stelvio Q, which has the most direct steering ratio on the market (12.1:1), is natural and instinctive.

Stelvio Quadrifoglio holds two best-in-class titles that make it the highest-performing SUV in its segment – with a kerb weight of 1,830 kg, it boasts the best weight/power ratio in its category (3.6 kg/hp) and the best specific power (176 hp/l).These amazing results, synonymous with great driving pleasure, were achieved through perfect weight distribution between the two axles and the use of ultra-lightweight materials such as carbon fibre for the driveshaft and aluminium for the engine, suspension, brakes, doors, wheel-arches, bonnet and tailgate.

Another special feature of Stelvio Quadrifoglio is the innovative electromechanical Integrated Brake System (IBS) – an Alfa Romeo brand exclusive, which first appeared on the Giulia – which has become the new benchmark in terms of both swift response and stopping distance on any road surface plus weight reduction compared to a conventional braking system. High-performance carbon-ceramic discs are also available as an option.

Extreme performance and leading-edge technology are unmistakably conveyed by the unique style of Stelvio Quadrifoglio, the finest expression of Italian design, interpreted through Alfa Romeo’s unique flair and the perfect synergy of form and function, in a sensual, muscular car body. The new model’s most distinctive characteristics include the bonnet with functional air vents, sporty side-skirts and massive wheel arches – all body-coloured – plus four exhaust tips.

The same sporty style, with an added touch of typically Italian elegance, is found in the interior, which has been tailored like an exquisite bespoke suit, with painstaking craftsmanship and premium materials – carbon fibre, leather and Alcantara.

The centre of the dashboard is dominated by the new Alfa™ Connect 3D NAV 8.8” infotainment system which includes Apple CarPlay, the smarter, safer way to use your iPhone in car. Android Auto™ is also compatible with the Stelvio Q’s new infotainment system, bringing the best of Google into the car.

The Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team has launched its new challenger, the C37, ahead of the 2018 Formula 1 championship.

The C37 looks different to last year’s C36 – on one hand, this is due to the new technical regulations, and on the other hand, because of the team’s new technical approach.

As the 2018 season is about to kick off, Frédéric Vasseur, Team Principal, says: “I am very much looking forward to the 2018 season, and to seeing Marcus (Ericsson) and Charles (Leclerc) on track. We have put lots of effort and hard work into the C37 over the last few months, and it is fantastic to be launching the new car today. I am convinced that Marcus and Charles form the perfect driver line-up, with one being an experienced driver and one a promising rookie. Marcus is going into his fourth season with us. He is a valuable part of the team, and we benefit from his experience and precise technical feedback. As for Charles, he has proven his talent in prior categories and deserves to be on the Formula 1 grid this season.”

“Our target ahead of 2018 is clear: We have to catch up with the field and continue improving our performance during the course of the season. We have put lots of energy and commitment into the development of the C37. I want to thank our partners and fans for their continuous support. Alfa Romeo’s comeback restores one of the great names that have gone down in the history of motorsport’s premium championship, Formula 1, and marks the return of the “Quadrifoglio”, the legendary badge that has appeared on Alfa Romeo’s top performance cars since 1923, to the circuits. Featured on the engine cover of the new C37, the famous good-luck charm has a fascinating history, deeply rooted in the racing world. The first Alfa Romeo car to carry the Quadrifoglio was the “RL” driven by Ugo Sivocci which won the 15th edition of the Targa Florio in 1923. The same good-luck emblem also appeared on Brilli Peri’s “P2” when he triumphed in the first “Motor Racing World Championship” in Monza in 1925, gaining the first of Alfa Romeo’s five World Titles, and it was present again in 1950 and 1951, when Giuseppe “Nino” Farina and Juan Manuel Fangio drove the Alfa Romeo 158 and 159 cars, the famous “Alfettas”, to success in the first two Formula 1 World Championships. Today, the legendary symbol returns to the highest level of motor racing to show the whole world the continuing strength and success of the Alfa Romeo philosophy, a constant search for excellence applied to racing, then transferred in its entirety to the brand’s production cars. The legend continues.

Jörg Zander, Technical Director, explains: “It is great to finally reveal the C37 today. The 2018 challenger is the result of the hard work that everyone in the factory has put in over the last few months. Speaking about the C37, the car philosophy is much different to that of the C36. The aerodynamic concept has changed significantly, and the C37 has several new features in comparison to its predecessor. We are positive that the new concept offers us more opportunities and will help us to make improvements during the course of the season. The 2018 Ferrari engine will also give us a boost in terms of our performance. We hope that we will make progress with the C37 and that we are more competitive compared to 2017.”

The official rollout of the C37 will take place on the occasion of the first winter tests at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona from the 26th of February to the 1st of March 2018.

The editors of Car and Driver today named the Alfa Romeo Giulia – including the record-breaking Giulia Quadrifoglio – to its annual “10 Best Cars” list for 2018, which recognises the best cars on the market under $80,000.

The 10 Best nomination process has three official rules: the vehicle cannot exceed an $80,000 price tag; a sample vehicle must be available for testing by mid-September of the current calendar year; and the vehicle must be on sale to the public by January of the following calendar year.

“Every year, we gather all the new sub-$80,000 cars for a meta test of automotive virtue,” said Car and Driver. “Sixty-five cars, ten days, 26,000 miles, 58 ballots, 502 doughnuts, one rainstorm, zero traffic citations. We crunched the numbers and here you have it: the 10 Best Cars for 2018.”

Rather than limiting entries to only all-new or significantly redesigned vehicles, Car and Driver invites returning winners as eligible for its 10 Best awards, making the pool of candidates much larger and more competitive.

Alfa Romeo Giulia models feature an all-new, all-aluminium, 2.0-litre, direct-injection turbo engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission that delivers a class-leading, standard 280 horsepower and 306 lb.-ft. of torque, allowing it to launch from 0-60 mph (0-100 kmh) in 5.1 seconds, and achieve a top speed of 149 mph (240 kmh).

As the lineup’s “halo” model, the Giulia Quadrifoglio highlights Alfa Romeo’s performance and motorsport knowhow with its twin-turbocharged V6 engine featuring best-in-class 505 horsepower, 0-60 mph (0-100 kmh) in 3.8 seconds and a record-setting 7:32 lap time around the legendary Nürburgring – the fastest ever by a four-door production sedan.
