Driving the latest Renault Megane felt a bit different this year and while the solid, dynamic and sculpted exterior gave the car a lot more confidence, it was the interior that made the drive experience a lot more interesting. There is a new energy in this model now that we enjoyed during the week of testing.
Exterior
The new Megane comes with broad shoulders, sculpted sides and a ribbed bonnet that radiates confidence. Thefirst thing we notice is the assertive chrome grill, headlights framed by C-shaped LED daytime running lamps that provides a 3D effect and the new lighting signature in form of a dark-red horizontal line in the rear. Plus the 17“alloy wheels makes the exterior look dynamic and refined.
Interior
Once we get settled inside, the cockpit is a universe filled with technology with the R-LINK 2 system and its large touchscreen. It gives the passengers total control of the vehicle and more comfort.
We had easy access to our smartphone using the large onboard R-LINK 2 screen. With the multi-sense system, we personalized our driving information display plus the tablet offered numerous functions including navigation, call management and multimedia content reading.
There are cup holders in both the front and rear and ample legroom for freedom of movement. The Arkamys sound was more superior than before and the ambience was highlighted by glass sunroof, richly-furnished interio, customizable ambient lighting and the contoured wrap-around seats with a massage feature. On board MEGANE, experience unrivalled pleasure.
Technology
The R-LINK 2 multimedia system is a truly intuitive and connected control centre. Passengers’ can use voice control to access navigation or the telephone, find your musical content, manage driving assistance technology, and access various services with nothing more than a touch of the fingers. They can also customise the display, save seat preferences and air conditioning settings for up to six different profiles.
We were able to choose between various driving modes offered by the exclusive MULTI-SENSE system and tried the Sport mode on the highways, and enjoyed the massage seat when driving in the Comfort mode. For long journeys, we opted for Eco mode to test the fuel usage.
Safety
A new era of comfort and safety awaits, thanks to the driver assistance technologies that Renault has installed in New Renault Megane. It analyses every situation and instantly activates the appropriate technological solution to protect, warn, or assist its driver. Main features include Blind Spot Warning, Moving Object Detection and Easy Park Assist.
Our Verdict
We loved the Megane for its practicality and how versatile it was for all personalities. For the adventurous drivers, there is a Towbar-mounted bike rack that can also be folded for easy access to the trunk. There is a roof cargo carrier for those who love road trips. There is a trunk liner that is perfect for easily transporting various items while keeping the interior clean. The car looks smart with textile floor mats custom designed to perfectly match the interior and we loved the technology, in particular the sound system.
