A few days with the all-new KIA Cadenza 2017 from Al Majid Motors Co. changed my perception of what the KIA brand has to offer these days. I expected to drive a no frills simple car and take a break from my Cayenne Turbo but I was in for a surprise and actually looked forward to my errands in the KIA Candeza.
The second-generation sedan has been designed and engineered to build on the international success of its award-winning predecessor, setting new standards for comfort, dynamics and in-car technologies in the large sedan segment.
The Cadenza boasts a precisely crafted cabin, cutting edge technology for connectivity and driver assistance, a stronger body structure, and powertrain enhancements, all of which synthesise to deliver a premium driving experience.
The technical design and luxury improvement in the sedan are commendable and is set to give the brand a boost in sales. It certainly has high quality materials than the preceding model, and the levels of craftsmanship are sophisticated and easy to use. During a press junket while I had the car, a few other motoring journalists had a look at the interiors and were just as impressed.
The 2017 model is able to withstand a significantly higher lateral force, maintaining maximum stability under hard cornering, while a range of new suspension features add to the comfortable ride. The overall chassis is lighter, thanks to the use of aluminium instead of steel in areas such as the front steering knuckles, and engineers have retuned the front and rear subframes with larger bushings to improve lateral stiffness and the suppression of noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics.
I spoke about the safety ratings with the KIA team and discovered the car has an overall five-star rating from the USA’s National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, a ‘Top Safety Pick+’ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and the highest possible scores in the Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP).
The large sedan is the latest model from KIA to undergo thorough testing from the brand’s newly-launched Global Quality Centre, established to ensure all KIA vehicles are engineered, tested and manufactured to exceed customer quality expectations. Now I am looking forward to try the other KIA models.
