As the summer heat gets more intense, car care becomes important especially for me as I drive an open top car with just a fabric protecting it from the heat. We have hence curated some tips on car care in the summer heat.
- Check your tires
Heat can cause tires to expand, which can lead to blowouts. Make sure your tires are properly inflated and have enough tread depth. Check your owner’s manual for the recommended tire pressure and use a tire gauge to check the pressure.
- Keep your car cool
Park your car in a shaded area or use a windshield sunshade to prevent the interior from overheating. Consider using a car cover to protect your car from the sun’s harmful UV rays.
- Check your fluids
In hot weather, your car’s fluids, such as oil, coolant, and transmission fluid, can evaporate faster. Make sure to check your fluids regularly and top them off as needed.
- Clean your car
Dirt, dust, and grime can build up on your car’s exterior and prevent it from properly cooling. Clean your car regularly to ensure it can dissipate heat efficiently.
- Check your battery
Heat can cause your car’s battery to fail. Check the battery’s connections and make sure they are clean and tight. If your battery is more than three years old, consider replacing it.
- Use your air conditioning efficiently
Using your car’s air conditioning can put extra strain on the engine. To maximize efficiency, roll down your windows to let hot air out before turning on the air conditioning. Consider using a solar-powered fan to help circulate air in the car.
- Drive carefully
High temperatures can cause roads to become more slippery, so drive carefully and keep a safe distance from other vehicles. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, as it can put extra strain on your car’s engine.
